“Three executive members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) were named among 17 new members of the Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) on Nov. 30, 2007 in Abuja by the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC),” Lemmy Ughegbe reports.
According to the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Alhaji Usman Musale, the committee chaired by Chief Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi, chose the new members of the silk after a “more open and rigorous” screening exercise.
The list includes former NBA scribe Julius Oladele Adesina, and a female legal practitioner, Uchenna Gregory Nwokedi. The former first Vice President of the association, Mrs. Funke Adekoya, made the list on September 9, 2001.
The others include the current Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Abuja (UNIABUJA), Prof. Charles Udenze Ilegbune, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the sacked Celestine Omehia administration in Rivers State, Okechukwu Emmanuel Wali, and his counterpart during the Governor Orji Kalu of Abia State administration, Solomon Ukaegbu Akuma.
The LPPC yesterday cleared 17 lawyers for the conferment of the rank of SAN.
