Who’s Who: Chief Solomon Ukaegbu Akuma, MON, SAN

The Otumba of Igbere, Chief Solomon Ukaegbu Akuma (SAN) was sworn-in as Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi, on Wednesday, December 12, 2007. He was one of 17
attorneys selected in 2007 for the conferment of the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) by the Legal
Practitioners Privilege Committee (LPPC).

His swearing-in brought the number of SANs to 245 as at 2007 since the most prestigious honour in the legal
profession was introduced in 1975.

Chief Solomon Ukaegbu Akuma, is the second Igbere son to be conferred with SAN rank.

Fondly called Solo by his admires, he was born into the family of Chief Emmanuel Ukaegbu Akuma (Ogaukwu) and Lolo Esther Erinma Ukaegbu of Amakpo Igbere on April 1, 1959. Being the first, he has eight siblings.

He started his elementary school at Dick Ogan Memorial School, Aba in 1966 which was truncated by the Nigeria Civil War. After the cessation of hostilities, he completed his primary education at Danfodio Road Primary School Aba. He proceeded to National High School, Aba for his secondary education from Primary 5 in 1973 and came out in flying colours in 1978. He sat and passed Economics and Government in Advance Level General Certificate of Education as private student.

Solo, gained admission to read Law at University of Nigeria, Nsukka; where he earned his L.L.B degree. He graduated in 1986 after attending the Nigerian Law School, Lagos, earning a B.L. Degree.

After his enrollment as Barrister and Solicitor of Supreme Court of Nigeria, Solo embarked upon the compulsory National Youth Service in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He had a brief pupilage in the Law Office of Chris Uche & Co., before setting up his own firm of Chief Solo Akuma  (SAN) & Associates in April, 1988.

He is staunch member of Odinma Ebiri Age Grade of Igbere. He served as a Legal Adviser of Igbere Welfare Union, from 1988 to 2005. He was the Chairman of IWU-EZUMEZU 2005 PLANNING COMMITTEE.

He is a practicing Christian and was formally the Legal Adviser of former Aba Presbytery and Aba North Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria respectively for over ten years. He was former President of Igbere Scholars Association.
Solo has served Abia State Government in various capacities. He was special Adviser to Executive Governor of Abia State on Inter Governmental Affairs, and later Chairman of Land Use and Allocation Committee Abia State; Secretary, Visitation Panel to Abia State University Uturu; Counsel to Isiala Ngwa Junction Disturbances Judicial Panel of Inquiry in 2002; and Member of Judicial Panel of Inquiry into Abiriba Crisis in 2004. He was sworn in on 22nd August 2005 as the Honorable Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Abia State.

He has written several legal articles that have been published in various journals. He edited the book “Traversing the Path of Justice” published in honour of Hon. Justice C. I. Uche.

Solo is happily married to Lady Victoria Ebere Akuma and the marriage is blessed with 4 lovely children: Emmanuel, Esther, Solo Jr. And Grace. Chief Solo Akuma has eight (8) siblings namely: Mrs. Nnenna Kalu, Mrs. Chinyere Okoji, Mr. Ukaegbu Ukaegbu, Mrs. Ngozi Igwe, Mr. Abraham U. Akuma, Mrs. Ebere Daniel, Mrs. Uchenna Kalu Agu and Barr. Emmanuel Nwachukwu Ukaegbu.

Solo Akuma holds the prestigious and unique Chieftaincy title of Otumba Okpegbuoha of Igbere. He was the Chairman of the Occasion, Ezumezu Igbere 2008 Festival.
