NBA Leadership Has Failed Nigerians – by Ukaegbu Ukaegbu

I never thought that there would come a time when the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) will forget or neglect their core objective which is to protect the fundamental human right in a democratic society.

However, considering the NBA’s deafening silence on the incessant human rights abuses of the Buhari administration against Nigerians of all walks of life, especially against pro-Biafra protesters.

It is very embarrassing and imperative to remind NBA that one of their objectives stated on their official website (http://www.nigerianbar.org.ng/) reads as follows:

“Promotion and protection of the principles of the rule of law and respect for enforcement of fundamental rights, human rights and people’s rights.”

Folks, please check and see the last time the NBA made a public statement concerning human rights abuses of this administration.

Do they still have a President and National Executive? Is there still an association of lawyers in Nigeria called NBA? Are the other members of this body not embarrassed by the actions and/or inactions of their current leadership, when there are so much human rights abuses currently going on? Isn’t it shameful?
